Am I the only one not liking the changes to the KDE menu?
I am talking about finding applications. With KDE 3.5, I could at least find what I wanted and the tools for Internet configuration were not hard to find. I know I am not alone as I have demonstrated KDE 4 to some people I know who use Linux and they don't want to move to KDE 4. They don't like it. But, my complaint is not so much about appearance and usability than it is about going through the menu and taking more time than you need to find an application. This is most evident with NetworkManager. I still cannot find it. It is installed, no? At least, I find under 'Internet' category: Network Device Control 'system-config-network 1.5.10' The repo shows that NetworkManager is installed. But, I can't find anywhere to run it. I will google to figure out how to run it via CLI but this is ridiculous that I would have to do this. Sorry, but, imho.... I just can't believe I would be t he only one to complain about this. I mean, I think that NetworkManager already is an achilles heel for most Linux users and complained about but to not be able to find a program or utility to check/troubleshoot Internet connection issues... I apologize for my complaints and concerns but I was hoping I could receive some explanations and possibly some info about how to proceed (to solve the problem). I do hope that developers would look at this idea (to improve the menu system and add NetworkManager or some program to the menu). That is, to make it easier to select a GUI for troubleshooting or even just analyzing the connection settings. It was easier in KDE 3.5. Final comment:: most of this issue has been experienced recently in Fedora. I am having an issue with my wireless but also cannot find settings for my wired connection. I have both Kubuntu and Fedora installed on my desktop. |

The NetworkManagement plasmoid for KDE 4 is still in development at this time, and will support more than just NetworkManager hopefully when completed.
Note it is a Plasmoid NOT an application, therefore is found in Add Applets instead. It was shipped as part of Kubuntu 9.04 I believe, and there is a PPA available also with latest SVN available. You could also try a different network manager such as Wicd ( which I find to far more reliable than Network Manager ) You could also use the KDE 3 application ( even though it is terribly broken... )

Either go for wicd or the cli option. netcfg is also pretty cool.
