Hey
Just trying out KDE and want to use as many KDE native apps as possible. Therefore I'm using Kopete as my IM and I'm trying to figure out how to enable popups ONLY when a person writes to me the first time. I'm not interested having popups all the time when I have the chat window open. Is there a way to fix this? Regards Casper PS. If there's an existing thread regarding this issue please link to it, haven't found one yet. |

In Kopete, go to "Settings > Notification". You will find several situations that can be handled by the notification system. I think the two entries that you are interested in, are "Incoming Message" and "Incoming Message in Active Chat Window". Select the last of the two mentioned entries and deselect the notification options you don't like.

Thanks for the reply! I've been there and done it and it's maybe good enough, but when I have an active chat window below another window the popup keeps popping up. What I'm looking for is just to mark the taskbar entry when the window is open/below other windows. |

So the problem seems to be kopete not recognizing an open chat window as active. I think that's not a bug, it's a feature
As long as there is no entry "Incoming message in open chat" or something like that, there is not much that can be done. You may file a feature request at bugs.kde.org

Help is on the way: KDE 4.3 now groups similar notifications of the same application.
BTW: You can always disable the passive popups. The kopete tray icon will still notify you about new messages.

Okay that's sounds kool. It's very annoying, but just have to live with it. Yeah I know I can disable it, but sometimes I miss the blinking tray icon hehe;-) |

No, it works the way you want it, Casper.
Go to Settings -> Configure -> Behavior -> Events Tick: "Treat all chats on the current desktop like active chats" Know if you disable the "Incoming Message in Active Chat" popup and just enable the one above ("Incoming Message") it should work the way you wanted.
