Dear Community,

I have Kubuntu Jaunty with KDE 4.2.4 and a Huawai E180 USB Internet Modem.

I am not able to connect to Internet using this modem anymore (worked fine and without any problems in Kubuntu Intrepid with KNetworkmanager).

* When I insert the modem into USB Port it is recognized (as E220 / E270?)
> Bus 001 Device 018: ID 12d1:1003 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E220 HSDPA Modem / E270 HSDPA/HSUPA Modem

* It appears in the Networkmanagement Panel Applet

* I configured it with the details of the provider (same data as in Intrepid)

* I dont get a connection.

Syslog states:
Jun 20 10:42:24 tom-notebook NetworkManager: Activation (ttyUSB0) starting connection 'Orange'
Jun 20 10:42:24 tom-notebook NetworkManager: (ttyUSB0): device state change: 3 -> 4

Jun 20 10:42:24 tom-notebook NetworkManager: [1245487344.314012] nm_serial_device_open(): (ttyUSB0) opening device...
Jun 20 10:42:24 tom-notebook NetworkManager: Invalid baudrate '20027726'
Jun 20 10:42:24 tom-notebook NetworkManager: Invalid bits (0). Valid values are 5, 6, 7, 8.
Jun 20 10:42:24 tom-notebook NetworkManager: Invalid parity (
Jun 20 10:42:24 tom-notebook NetworkManager: Invalid stop bits (0). Valid values are 1 and 2)
Jun 20 10:42:24 tom-notebook NetworkManager: Activation (ttyUSB0) Stage 1 of 5 (Device Prepare) complete.

Thats all.

I googled already many hours to solve this problem, but found only people with the same or similar issue. It seams that nobody has a working mobile internet connection with network manager in kde. This problem is also discussed in the ubuntu austria forum, they write that it is absolutly no problem with Ubuntu/Gnome (2 or 3 clicks) and nobody solved this problem with Kubuntu.

Do you have an idea to get such connections working?

Thanks in advance!!
Tom

This appears to be a bug in the NetworkManagement plasmoid. Can you please try and test with latest SVN NetworkManagement? I believe a PPA is available.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it by using the latest nm plasma applet and also by using knetworkmanager instead, but failed.

But I was successful by using wvdial:
> sudo apt-get install wvdial
> sudo vi /etc/wvdial.conf (got a sample for my provider from the web)
inserted the usb internet modem
> sudo wvdial

=> thats all, umts is working and I have a workaround.

But it would be very useful if the bug would be fixed asap. nm plasma applet is a great applet.

If this bug does not already exist at bugs.kde.org can you please report it?
