Hi! I noticed something bothering. I'm using KDE 4.3 beta 2 and if I try to open some file writing a http URL instead of a local URL, I get the response "URL cannot be listed". Is this the expected behavior? I used to do this without problems with KDE 3.5.
Thanks! |

Does using Konqueror to open websites work? Which application are you using that is affected?

If you mean that it simply shows the web page when inserting the URL in the location bar, then yes. Konqueror seems to work correctly. Any application I tried is affected.
I used to open http URLs with Amarok (I used the set custom cover function and I used to insert the http URL of the cover), and it is not working now. I tried to open a txt file with kate inserting the http URL of the txt file and the error message appears as well. The same with Konqueror if I try to "Open File...". I suppose its not related to the specific application but to the... I don't know how it's called... file picker? I suppose that is the same code for every applications, am I right? Anyway, I just noticed that waiting a little bit, it seems the txt file is opened, but Amarok doesn't pick the cover. |

HTTP does not support listing, but the question is why does the application attempt listing if you point it to a file.
Could be a bug somewhere in KIO Cheers, _

No, since HTTP does not support performing file listings ( WebDAV does however )
If you supply a full URL to a file then it should work without problems.

I know that, but I get that message when a URL to a file is inserted. For instance, I get that message while opening something like http://www.site.com/text.txt with Kate.

Can you try if it works from commandline, e.g.

Then it is most likely a bug in the file dialog.
Maybe it tries to list the directory even if it gets an URL pointing to a file and then fails if the protocol doesn't support listing. Cheers, _ |
