@e-smile: You need to use the Kopete from KDE 4.3 or later, since Yahoo changed their protocol. A backport of the fix is extremely unlikely.
@johnlvs2run: KDE version?

Weird. It's connecting pretty reliably for me...

Yes. I am using KDE 3.5.9 with Sabayon 3.5, but also tried the version with Sabayon 4.2 which didn't connect to yahoo at all. I have downloaded Sabayon 5.0 but apparently it has quite a few bugs so I have not tried it yet. I don't care for yahoo but that is where my friends chat, and I have not figured out how to use Jabber. If I could figure Jabber out and introduce my friends to it then I would rather move to there and not use yahoo any more. |

Jabber works virtually the same as Yahoo, an easy client to use ( for non Linux users ) is Google Talk.
I believe due to changes in Yahoo's protocol, KDE 4.3 or later is required to connect to Yahoo with Kopete.

i just figured out why my yahoo account wouldn't connect!
for 'yahoo username' you have to enter only your user name xxxxx not xxxxx@yahoo.com didn't figure this one out for ages! i think there should be an error message telling you that your login information was not correct. i didn't get any error, i thought the problem would be the protocol or a connection error. please make kopete show error messages telling us what went wrong |

Can you please report a bug about this as it should give an error if the server authentication failed.

Using either myname@yahoo.com, or just myname doesn't work. The account icon flashes for about a second and then just says offline. I'm using KDE 4.3.
Does anyone have other suggestions? |

Kopete is still giving me problems, this time with MSN, so I installed Pidgin.
