I thought it was something on my side but all my KDE computers had problems with Kopete connecting so I went on Google.
Searching for Kopete and Yahoo brought no recent posts but the news search came out with these two hits:

to find out that hey, Kopete doenst work with Yahoo and that it will be fixed in the July release of KDE4.3

Im sorry but that seems like poor communication when a major app like Kopete is down (or at least down for a certain IM which in my case is about 3/4 of my contacts).

Tried the scsa.msg.yahoo.com and
cn.scs.msg.yahoo.com. and others to no avail.
Ill wait for the 4.3 fix, use Meebo in the meanwhile.

But cmon, KDE4.3 is scheduled for July 28th.
That's in one month.
Surely there must be a way to send an update before the next Patch Tuesday ?

A patch could have been backported to the 4.2 branch or could potentially be backported.
You'll have to contact your distributor to find out whether they are going to release an updated package.

why don't you install the beta version of KDE 4.3? I've been using it since it first appeared on the opensuse repo.

I did backport a patch to the KDE 4.2 branch. In fact, I think that was the first branch to actually get the fix. I also posted the information the packagers needed to pick up the fix to the kde-packager mailing list. Hopefully, your distribution has updated its packages by now. If it has not, please bug them.

So, I had to come here to discover why I can't use Kopete anymore. I have been trying to send messages to a relative who uses Yahoo Messenger. But, I can't anymore as the contacts always appear 'offline.' and when I try to get online, I receive a message that I 'might not be online' even though the status is green (aka online).

KDE developers doesn't care about this program/application anymore or what?

More often, I'm considering a switch to Gnome desktop distros for this impression.

Have you filed a bug report? If you haven't, then there's a slim chance that a developer will look at it. Filing a bug on bugs.kde.org is the best way to make sure that your issues are known about and fixed, even it does take awhile.

Honestly, if you feel like that you need to switch to Gnome just because the default instant messenger for the KDE desktop doesn't work correctly for you, then by all means, switch.

There are developers that care about Kopete. However, unlike other KDE components, none of us are in the fortunate position of being paid to care. This means that we spend what limited free time we have on the project, and things move more slowly than they might in other areas of KDE.

When you say, "not connecting", do you mean, "It doesn't display my yahoo account as, 'online'"?

Because I came to discover recently that it won't work if you use your whole Yahoo email address as a username. When I just used my username (I.E. everything before, '@yahoo.com') it told me I had connected and that I am online. I can't check, though, since I've not got any Yahoo buddies


In brief:
"marcusandreasharrison@yahoo.com" didn't work.
"marcusandreasharrison" did work.

Kopete doesn't connect to yahoo at all.

I have always signed up with just my username, not the email address.

Any Solution yet ... Kopete doesn't work with Yahoo on my case too
