All seems fine... the output of this last executable. I suspect that it is shipped as 32bit for "compatibility" reasons, which usually requires using a 32bit browser.

Bingo! Its 32bit, seems it is having a symbol collision with the 64bit browser and plugins you are using. You will need to locate which package it is in and reinstall it specifying the 64bit architecture.

Thank you SOOO much! Now, how do I go about determining which package it's in?
I ran
/usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/i386/linux/npviewer.bin I searched Kpackagekit for nspluginwrapper and it says the version installed is 64-bit (amd64).

Did you install Java and Flash from the repositories as per instructions from your distributions wiki/forum?

Yes I did. The package was "kubuntu-restricted-extras".

I think i found the problem. From kubuntu's nspluginwrapper 1.2.2(amd64) details: "Details: nspluginwrapper is an Open Source compatibility plugin for Netscape 4 (NPAPI) plugins. That is, it enables you to use plugins on platforms they were not built for. This package is built to run i386 plugins, since there are no known binary-only plugins built for any other architecture." |

If I try to remove it from Kpackage kit, it wants to take flashplugin-nonfree and flashplugin-installer with it, which are both amd64 versions.

This is a bug in Ubuntu then, since they are providing 64bit packages which contain 32bit executables, whilst providing 64bit browser plugins. Please report this at launchpad. I am surprised that Flash even works in some browsers ( it works in Firefox since it loads them directly )
As a workaround, install the 32bit versions of Java and Flash.
