Hi folks,
do the file transfers via Jabber currently work? I have one computer with a public IP and another behind NAT and I can't transfer files between them. My Jabber account is set with SSL and I have opened the tcp/udp ports 6891 8010 on both computers/routers. On the jabber settings window I didn't specify any IP-address, and the default port number is 8010. any hints? |

And what do you do if you are behind an NAT an can't open any ports? I find the configuration dialog a little confusing. And anything I found on the web about this problem was older den 2 years and not very useful. Some help about how to configure Kopete for Jabber file transfer would be really nice. I hate switching to ICQ or MSN to transfer files.

I use the Jabber plugin!! And the thing thats really missing is a working file transfer especially if you are behind a firewall/NAT.

I'm using Jabber all the time and have several contacts using it - any development on it is appreciated. A lot.
Especially working file transfers would be grand. I've grown used to mailing stuff around, but that's really tedious. And I'd definitely have a use for MUC, it would simplify many of my conversations. I think the lack of feedback is partly due to the fact that most people think that it's obvious to the developers that those features are still needed. Before I read your post I thought that they weren't there already because no developer cared enough. |

Multi-User Chat with Jabber works. At least it worked with KDE3. I haven't testet it yet with KDE4.

I'll have a try when the situation arises again.
MUC didn't work the last time I tried it, but admittedly it's been a while. It kind of turned into a black spot for my mind, I guess (just as I tend to mail all files now without thinking about it). The point remains, Jabber is important to me and many of my study buddies. If features work even though I thought they didn't - all the better. |

Hey there,
I am trying to use Kopete for Jabber but don't see any Group Chat or Jabber menu anywhere. How do I get a group chat to even work? I tried creating a new account to the conference room I created but it doesn't seem to work at all. I am using Kopete and Jabber all the time to chat to contacts but have never tried group chat until now. Perhaps you should also consider that if people use Jabber they may know a little more than people who use MSN or Yahoo or something and therefore not require support as much and therefore don't go submit wishlists or feature requests or bug reports as often. I think there are still a lot of people out there who would use it if it was there but wouldn't spend the time to submit a ticket about it and instead just go download another program that they know supports group chat with Jabber. I love Kopete but will have to switch back to Pidgin or something else if I can't get this group chat thing to work because I am trying to use it for a wedding site for group chat. I have Openfire and Sparkweb setup on my server but don't really want to have to have the page open all the time. Any ideas? Thanks! Ryan |
