Using AFP protocol in dolphin

Tue Aug 25, 2009 2:59 pm
Hi,

I'm running KDE 4.3 using kubuntu Karmic distro. I'm trying to connect to my work's apple computers using the afp protocol in dolphin. I can navigate and see them in network (I see an icon for the server:YMaries.afpovertcp), but selecting I get an error message "URL cannot be listed: afp://ymaries.local:548".

Do I need to install some client software to make this work (netatalk, afpfs-ng or something)? Or could this be an issue with my network (I'm on a 244 subnet while the other computer is on 91)? sftp protocol works, btw.

On a side note, while I can see these computers on the network, I can't see them using the samba protocol even thought they are shared.

Thanks,
Ian

It does not appear that a AFP KIO slave exists at this time, hence the error message. This is not related to the subnet your machine is on. You will need to try FUSE based utilities such as those available from the afpfs-ng project, unless they provide a KIO slave.
