Using Kopete 0.12.7 in Slackware 12.2.
Kopete will not, no matter how many times I've tried, remember the notification (sound) settings for any contact. Is there a fix (patch) for this other than installing KDE 4.xx? Many Thanks.

Try to start Kopete on Konsole (open Konsole and type kopete &) and look if there's some output which relates to your problem, maybe this helps you (you can post it, too, of course).

Thanks. I tried that and there were no messages of any kind, error or otherwise.

OK, it could be that Kopete hasn't access because of wrong permissions. So try that:
in Konsole. |

Well, I'm using KDE 3.5.10 and Kopete 0.12.7, in Slackware 12.2. I assume, but could be wrong, that you are suggesting I cd to wherever the kde configuration file is in my home directory and then run the chown command shown above? Or, is there another kde configuration file I should be looking for, and, if so, where would it be located? Many Thanks.

OK, thought you are using KDE 4. Sorry.
Then change kde4-config to kde-config. I wanted to be sure, that ALL configuration files have the right permissions (the easiest and safest way). |

OK, I found a kde-config file in usr/bin/ and the permissions are set for "others can read." The file belongs to root and is in the root group.

Did you execute this commands:

Yes, I did. However, I don't understand the first line. Why would I cd (change directory) 'kde-config --localprefix' ? Sorry, doesn't make any sense to me... But, I did do it and then checked permissions and they are the same as reported above.

Ah, okay. kde-config --localprefix prints a directory path like ~/.kde. And the ` (not ') takes these path and gives it to cd so cd goes to the path kde-config --localprefix printed out (in this case it's ~/.kde).
