once with every new version of kubuntu i give it another try... i am searching in "system settings" nothing there but this not very usefull "sharing" icon.. so i rightclick on the folder i want to share and change to the tab "sharing" - then "configure filesharing" - i enter my password and thats it.. nothing happens.. i mean NOTHING.. so what...

what am i supposed to do.. say for the moment i am an experienced windows user and i am used to easily share my folders in the home group.. how to accomplish with kde (kubuntu) ?

i think i have asked this before.. is this a simple bug? is there a bug report? is filesharing so unimportant that it will stay unusable for another 5 years? what would be the right thing to do..

and no thx.. don't give me commandline advice please.. kde is a GUI .. the G stands for graphical..
i already know samba like my own home.. i will never ever give away my working smb.conf again ^^ BUT i would like to know how to do this without my knowhow.. for all the other people out there.. for all my friends who think kubuntu will be usable for them.. (i can tell what they would think if they would know that they are doomed to fail on the filesharing task)

thx for any usefull advice or an interesting diskussion in advance..

You should have a module called "Samba" available on the "Advanced" tab. This is an issue we found during the reorganisation of System Settings which is still under discussion.

If it is not present then you need to install it from the repositories. Note that the module is quite old, and may not produce valid configuration files for the new version of Samba.

This was a chore for me too! What solved it for me was installing kdenetwork-filesharing in addition to the guide here: http://kubuntuguide.org/Lucid#Samba_File_Sharing

funny thing... kubuntu team announces: this problem is finally solved.. in kubuntu 11.04 filesharing will be working as expected and the buttons like "share" won't be dead ends anymore.. we will see..
