Hi, I'm a Kubuntu 9.10 64-bit user and have been trying to get my wireless connection to work with KNetworkManager but it fails to connect to my university network (it uses WPA2 with PEAP+MSCHAPv2). So I installed Wicd as an alternative network manager and it worked alright. However, I noticed that in System Settings -> Hardware -> Network Management Backend, there is the option "Wicd". So I thought I could have my cake and eat it too: A wireless connection that works and that integrates nicely into KDE4 (rather than having to use Wicd's GTK interface), but selecting Wicd doesn't seem to change anything; I can't press "Apply" to save my changes in the configuration panel anyway, so it doesn't save my selection. I suppose that this is because I don't actually have knetworkmanager anymore, as installing the Wicd package removes knetworkmanager automatically. So I thought I'd reinstall the knetworkmanager package, but... it asks to remove Wicd. So... is there any way to use Wicd as backend for KNetworkManager?

The Solid Hardware backend selection is just for applications retrieving information, such as does the system have an internet connection?
KNetworkManager is still heavily bound to NetworkManager at the moment unfortunately.

Okay, I see. I'm fine with having a GTK app sitting in my tray like that, but I still think it would be a nice feature suggestion for KNetworkManager.
