In kde 4.3, one of the features I most liked about dolphin (kde in general, but dolphin is where I used it) is the sftp kioslave. I really liked its ability to browse files through my ssh connection. In the kde 4.4 beta, however, this kio seems to be absent. Is it being made an installable feature or is it being removed completely? If it is being made installable, does anyone know where I could get it?

(note: I am using kubuntu 9.10 with the kde 4.4 repository from the kubuntu site, if it helps)

It is possible that libssh was not available when your distribution configured and built the KDE 4.4 Beta packages. I would recommend you contact the maintainers of the PPA and request they add libssh to the build system, so that kio_sftp can be re-enabled.

As an workaround you can use sshfs and mount your remote machine into a local file-system directory. From there Dolphin behaves as the remote machine is a local directory. At least it works for me.

I've used sshfs before, and it works well. I just prefer using the kio. It just feels less hack-ish.

I'll see if I can get it changed with the repository maintainers. Thanks.
