Hi all,
I've just upgraded to KDE 4 (4.3.3, latest stable on Gentoo) from 3.5, and I'm still trying to find my way around. I'm going to suspend judgement until after I've got over the normal knee jerk reactions about things being different, though some things are definitely different in a nice way (and it looks like I can now use Google maps without having to run Firefox, which is a big bonus). Obviously a lot of work has gone into KDE4 however, so congrats to everyone involved. One 'critical' feature I haven't found yet in KDE4 is a scrolling RSS ticker. I've found articles which imply that the KDE3 knewsticker has been discontinued. Is this still the case? Assuming it is, do any of the existing KDE4 plasmoids (is that the right term?) provide an option to scroll RSS feeds horizontally or are there any plans to add such support? Or alternatively, something which provides an updating RSS view which fits into a panel? Thanks, Sam. |

there is a rssnow plasmoid, of course only you can decide it it's what you're looking for
also there's other widget technologies such as superkaramba and google widgets that probably do feeds |

I've tried RSSNow, and it doesn't seem to work when embedded in a panel (it just displays the first item). Outside a panel, it works just fine (for my purposes) as long as only one feed is used. Since it has a different view for each feed, it's going to be unwieldy with a ~dozen feeds even when on the desktop.
I'll take a look at NetNewsTicker, though going by the comments, it doesn't work embedded in a panel, which is really where I want to stick it. Thanks, Sam. |

In KDE 4.0 and 4.1, there was a RSS ticker (one that would scroll by) BUT, it was removed for reasons unknown to me.
I think the developer gave up, I'm not sure.
