Hi there,
I dont know if this is a bug or feature but in KDE 4.4 RC2 kopete tray icon behaves diferently from 4.3.x When there is no message pending, there is a kopete icon in tray in the same area as all other programs' tray icons (like kmail, kwallet, etc.) But when message arrives the tray icon starts animate - this is good. But the surprise for me is, that in this case the kopete animated icon moves to other part of tray area close to "i" icon with notifications (unfortunately I don't have screenshot on this computer now) Can anybody else see this behaviour? Is it feature or should I fill a bug report for that? I would say it is definiteley not nice behaviour.

Check the behaviour when it is unanimated. Does it have a glow around it similar to the one also shown by KMix and KNetworkManager?
If it has this glow, and doesn't have it when it is animated, then this is possibly an issue with Kopete's switch to the new framework for system tray icons, and is a bug in Kopete or the new system tray icon framework. Otherwise, if it has the identical glow at both times, it is a bug in the System Tray.

I haven't noticed any glow around kmix icon. Could you please post a screenshot?
On these screenshots, you can see how my tray looks like (there is also a graphical issue with notifications mentioned in another thread) http://img7.imgup.eu/KDE4.png http://img8.imgup.eu/KDE4.png

You need to hover over the icon for the glow to appear.

OK, there is a glow on hover around kopete icon same as kmix icon in both cases, when no message is waiting and also when icon is animated and moves close to "i" icon. This is a screenshot how it looks like.
There is an interesting point. When I disable icon animation on new message, the icon does not move close to "i" icon. Does it make sense?

Unfortunately I don't know why it is occurring then. Possibly it is due to its "state" changing causing Plasma to try to display it even though it already is ( hence causing it to be repositioned )
Can you please file a bug aganist Plasma? If this is an issue with Kopete itself then they should be able to diagnose it and re-assign appropriately.
