cannot customize kmail toolbar

I can open customization dialog and add icons
but when I select "apply" nothing happens. My customization remains in the dialog but the icon does not appear in the toolbar. Any advice would be welcome. TIA

kde 4.4 kmail Version 1.13.0 just install the new kde / customization used to work |

figured it out - the file kmmainwin.rc in
my old kmail folder must have been corrupted in some way. Removing it and restarting kmail fixed the problem. |
