I'm running KDE 4.4.0 on Kubuntu 10.04 development version and KNetworkManager seems to be borked - its package version: 1:0.9~svn1075616-0ubuntu1
Looks like networking may still be problematic for those users who don't want the default auto/dhcp mode. Is this just a lucid/packaging issue or the problem exists upstream as well? Or is it just my install thats borked? I am going to try the same workaround like I did last release - remove it and install network-manager-gnome so I can get PPTP VPN, wifi, static IP etc working... I don't have mobile broadband dongles to test. edit: My knetworkmanager version is: 1:0.9~svn1075616-0ubuntu1

Hello,
Add me to the list of problem users. For the record, KNetworkManager cannot establish a connection under Kubuntu Karmic using the official 4.4 packages. On the other hand, if I log in using GNOME (sigh . . .) I can connect without a problem. Take care out there. -- Marcel (Writer and Free Thinker at Large) Gagné Note: This massagee wos nat speel or gramer-checkered. |

I used Wifi ( with DHCP ) and used it to share my connection to a system connected to my laptops ethernet connection without issue.

Wifi networking is clearly complicated. Take this laptop, for instance. I can work in one area connected by dhcp to a Netgear router, with total stability. In the area I'm working now, with (nominally at least) the same model of router, I can't connect at all and have to use a cabled connection. Not that it matters, but XP couldn't hold a connection on either of them for more than a few seconds.
It doesn't help you, I know, but it just shows how hard it is to identify the problem.

Perhaps I should qualify that in my case at least, the problem I have is with PPTP VPN connections. WiFi is not an issue and neither are wired connections.
I do agree, however, that KNetworkManager could use some improvement; whether it's a KNetworkManager issue or just the way Kubuntu is packaging the product (running on Karmic release) is up for grabs. -- Marcel (Writer and Free Thinker at Large) Gagné Note: This massagee wos nat speel or gramer-checkered. |
