You could always start with an empty kde session... My kontact starts with a window as well, but that is just how I want it :)

run dcop kmail kmail-mainwindow#1, setHidden on to hide the window after you start kmail. If the system tray icon is not activated then you need dcop kmail kmail-mainwindow#1 setHidden off then to make the window appear again. I think this is one way to achieve what you want.

Thanks for sharing, but do You have an idea how to fix this:
Code: Select all
[warnec@chakra-desktop ~]$ dcop kmail kmail-mainwindow#1, setHidden
ERROR: Couldn't attach to DCOP server!

?

PS.: I Googled it, ran "dcopserver" and now:
Code: Select all
[warnec@chakra-desktop ~]$ dcop kmail kmail-mainwindow#1 setHidden on
object not accessible

PPS.:
Code: Select all
[warnec@chakra-desktop ~]$ dcop kmail
No such application: 'kmail'

No surprise that happens if you use KDE4 with the KDE4 version of Kmail. DCOP is a KDE3 technique, and not used by KDE anymore. Hopefully there's an equivalent dbus-call but I'm far from a dbus-expert.
