Hello everyone

I have a problem with my Synology NAS which is configured to use a guest account for read-only and a special user that has write permissions. From Windows I can connect to this Samba-Server, provide the login credentials as needed, and write to the NAS

From my OpenSuse 11.2 I cant do that. I am only able to use the guest account for read-only-access.
I tried several things:
  • Create a new Location in Dolphin as Windows-Network -> only read-access because I am not able to provide another user for login
  • Browse Samba-Shares -> I see a workgroup but no user is able to login there
  • Created another local user (dont like that approach) that maps the one on the NAS and tried the steps above -> same result
  • CIFS mount...well I dont want that. I just want to browse my Network and not mount any folders

Did I just miss some option where I can put user-credentials that should be used? Or is it not possible in this way?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

There are two options. For general credentials, go to system settings-> sharing and enter the username and password. Normally it should ask you for your username and password if it needs authentication, but I think you can force it to use a particular username by putting your username then @ before the location in the address. So for instance if the address is "smb:/addres.fu.com", make it "smb:/username@address.fu.com". At least I think that will work

Note that if that does not work, you may need to encode the password into the url also. The control module should work though.

Thanks for the hints. I will try when I am back home.

I tried the thing with the @ as well but I wasnt asked for any password. How would I encode the password into the url?

Passwords can be encoded into the url as follows:

Code: Select all
protocol://username:password@host/path

Example:
Code: Select all
smb://test:pass123@nas.localnet/files/stuff/

Thanks, the password encoding did work. It also looks like my system has stored the information now and I dont need to provide it any more
