Hi,
I recently switched to KDE and before I always used wicd to manage my network connections. Now I'd like to use the solution that comes with KDE, namely the plasma applet "networkmanagement" but I don't undestand how it works. I added the applet to my panel but I can't connect to a network when I deactivate the option "show tray icon". With this option set, I get a connection. So what's this applet for? When I want to use it I have two icons for my connection while I only want to have one (and not the one in the system tray). Am I missing something? /edit: I'm using 4.4.2 |

NetworkManagement uses the system wide "NetworkManager" service to provide its functionality. Please check to make sure that you are not running KNetworkManager and the Plasma applet at the same time.

This is even more confusing me.
My package manager doesn't show me that knetworkmanager isn't installed but htop shows it is running. I then killed it and started the plasma applet. As before it didn't connect. But when I enable the tray icon I get the connection but it seems that the tray icon is knetworkmanager because it now appears in htop again. |

This is quite unusual... last time I checked though, using the Widget instead of KNetworkManager wasn't recommended.
Please remove the NetworkManagement widget, then run the following:
KDE Sysadmin

Sorry for the delay.
The first command gives me a false I didn't know that KNetworkManager is preferred over the plasma widget, so I think I'll use the KNetworkManager. For what I've read in the Arch forums this widget finds no love at all |
