Kopete and Yahoo Instant Messaging

Mon Apr 12, 2010 3:16 pm
I am currently using Kopete Version 1.0.0 on KDE 4.4.2. For some reason, I am able to receive Yahoo IM messages, but am unable to send. I have checked AIM, GTalk, and ICQ, and all appears to work with them. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, has anyone figured out a workaround for this?

Please forgive me if I am missing important information or if I am posting this in the wrong area, as I am a relative newbie to linux and KDE (though I am impressed thus far).

Thanks

Have you filed a bug at bugs.kde.org regarding this? It is possible that Yahoo changed their protocol again.

I went through the bug reports and this was filed a while back, but doesn't seem to have been addressed properly. There is something about replacing the libkyahoo with an older version, which seems to fix the problem for others. Now, if I can figure out how to do that, I will be set till the bug is fixed officially :-).

According to what I am reading, this bug first appeared in Kopete 1.0.0 with the KDE 4.4.0 upgrade.

*EDIT* Figured out how to replace the file. Still getting my bearings with the command line, etc. Everything would appear to be working normally now.

For reference, the solution is listed here in the bug report. It can be found in the comments and attachments, listed as "Correct fix, with stealth feature enabled".

Pardon my ignorance, but how do you apply the patch in comment 50? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found a PPA. http://bigbrovar.aoizora.org/index.php/ ... n-kubuntu/ Yahoo protocol now sends fine.
