Dolphin - Network locations - SSH

Sat May 15, 2010 7:44 pm
When I mount a network location using Dolphin's Add Network Folder feature, I am afraid I am seeing a different and lesser functional behavior compared to Gnome/Nautilus.

The issue is, If i play a media file, lets say a video from network location, instead of getting streamed, it starts downloading and until it's downloaded completely in temp, it will not start playing in media player(any).

Where as in gnome/nautilus, opening a media file from ssh network location would let it to be streamed without downloading the whole thing?

Missing something here ?

Which media player are you using? In any case, this is due to the difference between the KIO and GIO models of operation.

I have tried using SMPlayer.

I am afraid using other players like Dragon Player, Totem, VLC, the file doesn't load at all.

The behavior is unpredictable, I remember this movie file being dowloaded the other day. Now when I am trying, data transfer starts as i can see in network traffic and then it subsides and nothing gets played at all.

Something's a miss here. However I can very well copy the whole thing and then go about it.

Which Phonon backend are you using? Note that Xine is most recommended, and will likely function fine using Phonon's KIO support. Dragon Player as a result should work perfectly.
