I've seen many complaints about the error "Cannot reach the instant messaging server or peers" when using Kopete's MSN protocol on many forums. This causes Kopete to appear to be connected to MSN, but none of your friends list show up, and you can send a test message to yourself to make sure it isn't working properly(the message won't go through). The gist of the problems is that MSLive has updated their protocol several times and broke Kopete's functionality. However, I thought this had been fixed by now.
First off, I use Arch, So as far as I know I'm using the most up to date versions of any software that would affect this. I'm using KDE 4.4.4, Kopete 1.0.0, and libmsn 4.1. I have a pretty slim KDE install, only installing the kde-workspace and kde-network package groups. Also, I have AIM and Yahoo working fine with Kopete, so I'm not sure if its a distro issue, an upstream issue, or whatever. I'd like to know if this is a known bug, and if there is a workaround that isn't too much of a hack I'd like to know about it. Otherwise I'll just have to wait for it to get fixed. If others users are getting the same problem, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

It is probable that the protocol has been changed yet again. Please file a bug report at bugs.kde.org...
