Hello,

since upgrading to KDE 4.5 RC2 (fedora 13) the network manager has missing entries. Looks like this: Image
Tried different themes, but no difference. How can I fix this and/or should I file a bug report?

Thanks!

This is because of the so called "dbusmenu", which allows this menu to be display through Qt in KDE and through Gtk in Gnome: http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-core-devel& ... 520295&w=2. There's a bug, so KNetworkmanager doesn't work right here: http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-core-devel& ... 922398&w=2.
And maybe this is the regarding bug report (but I am not sure): https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=243987

I don't know if it is possible to fix it, you can use the nm-applet of Gnome or cnetworkmanager in Konsole.

Also found more info in the thread you referenced and a potential patch, but apparently KNetworkManager is being deprecated anyway:

This can be fixed quite easily, by using the Network Management applet instead. You may need to run the following command before it functions however:
Code: Select all
qdbus org.kde.kded /kded loadModule networkmanagement

Make sure that KNetworkManager is not running when you run that command. It can be safely added as an Autostart item if needed.

yes, nm-applet works fine. This also seems to have fixed the somewhat weird white background in the icon list. I think I used nm-applet before and only switched to knetworkmanager when setting up a connection via mobile phone dongle because that seemed easier with knetworkmanager, but I can't quite recall and am not using the dongle at the moment. Anyway, everything seems to work reasonably well for now :)

Thanks for the help!

So I'm having the same problem with KNetworkManager, so I installed kde-plasma-networkmanagement.

How do I disable KNetworkManager from running at startup?
How exactly do I add the qdbus command so it runs at startup? Should I create a script so that it runs pre-KDE, or is it ok as a Program item?

Thanks.

The qdbus command must run as a Program item ( during KDE startup, definitely not Pre-KDE )

You can disable KNetworkManager from autostarting by creating "kde4-knetworkmanager-autostart.desktop" in ~/.config/autostart with the following:
Code: Select all
[Desktop Entry]
Hidden=true
