I'm quite new to linux and KDE

I would like to use the network manager to create a new VPN connection.

I right click on the icon in the system tray and select 'manage connections'

I then go to the 'VPN' tab

The 'Add' button is greyed out....

Am I missing something here?

I've tried clicking on Help, but get an error message 'The file or folder help:/ does not exist.'

In case it's relevant, it's an almost fresh install of Kubuntu 10.04 64bit

The error message shown when trying to view Help is a bug in Network Management, please file a bug at bugs.kde.org.

With regards to not being able to add a VPN, can you make sure the appropriate VPN plugin is installed? ( There is a plugin for each type: PPTP, OpenVPN, etc. )

I eventually found the pluggin here:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/network-manager-kde

So I did:

sudo apt-get install network-manager-openvpn-kde

I'm assuming there will be information in the help section about adding this pluggin when help is fixed.

I have exactly the same problem as the original poster, but I have not been able to find anything called openvpn-kde in the Fedora repositories.

OpenVPN is already installed, because I can connect to my office VPN from Xfce. But in KDE, the "Add" button in the VPN tab is greyed out.

Can you please help?

I suggest looking for packages such as "NetworkManager-openvpn-kde4" which is what it is called under openSUSE.

Alrighty! The plugins are named "knetworkmanager-openvpn" and "knetworkmanager-pptp" in Fedora.

Just in case there are other Fedora users stumped by this omission...

Thought would give an update of CentOS and RHEL7 users as well. The plugins are called like this:
kde-plasma-networkmanagement-openvpn
kde-plasma-networkmanagement-libreswan

In case this helps anyone else,
the required package on arch is
networkmanager-openvpn
