Hello,

I installed KDE 4.5 from OpenSUSE Factory Repo (11.2).
I tried to switch from knetworkmanager to the plasmoid but the plasmoid does not work.
I am NOT affected by the "knetworkmanager is already running" thing. The plasmoid shows all connections and the whole thing is looking fine.
The only problem is that I can't click on a connection to connect.
I looked at "tail -f /var/log/Networkmanager" but didn't see any reaction in there while I'm clicking on a connection.
Now I plugged a eth cabel and it connects automaticly.
To my wlan it does not connect automatlcly, the connection is marked to do so. And as told above, there is no way to connect manually.
Does anybody know why?
(perhaps this is a package error of OpenSUSE)

If you open System Settings > Network Settings > Network Connections > Wireless, then remove and re-add your wireless connection, does it work?

Thanks for your help. This did not work. I already had this problem with knetworkmanager a time ago. I tried it 3 times but with no effect.

Can you please post the output of "qdbus org.kde.kded /kded loadedModules"?

It should contain in the list "networkmanagement".

If it does not, please try running "qdbus org.kde.kded /kded loadModule networkmanagement" then see if the applet is functional. If this fixes the problem, then placing that command in a script in ~/.kde4/Autostart will fix the problem.

sorry but I had to switch back to knetworkmanager.
The service was loaded. Prior to my first post here I did a little research and founded that "Network Management Service Thing" so this was the first thing I tried.
I also unloaded the networkmanagement service to test the effect and the applet didn't show any connection and was not functional.
So I thought, if there were a problem with that service, nothing would be shown in the applet.
But the problem is that the applet doesn't connect. Neither if I click on a connection nor if the connection is set to connect automatically.

I really think this is a packaging error or something like that. This is not the only error I have here. The most errors seems to be qt-based or perhaps of the new shared data cache. (As far as my understanding goes...)

Example: I tried to recreate the connection as you said. I clicked on "Network A" in the list. Then "Network B" was shown in the connection editor. Then I tried it again, but everytime "Network B" was shown. So I switched the ssid inside the connection editor. Then the applet showed the new connection. The name was correct but the security icon and the signal strength was from "Network B".
The wallpapers on my desktop are showing the wrong thumbnails too. And dolphin creates strange folder icons with thumbnails (the error is only in sidebar and popups). The "add plasmoid" thing sometimes show no icons and the popups (descriptions) are also wrong.
I looked at .xsession_errors and /var/log/Networkmanager as I clicked on a connection inside the applet (plasmoid). Networkmanager said nothing and .xsession_errors said something about "null". (I don't know exactly but it was something like "..blabla on a null icon does nothing" or something like that.

You may need to run "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental" and possibly remove the caching directories:

Okay, now I did it without success.
I looked at .xsession_errors while I'm clicking on a connection. It says:

Code: Select all

QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap

But I don't know if this is relevant. Normally .xsession_errors is filled with such messages.

Okay, I switched the package Networkmanager-kde4-* from KDE Factory Repo to KDE Unstable Playground Repo and now it works...
The version string is lower, but now it works as excpected. I also did check .xsession_errors. The "Pixmap is a null pixmap" error while clicking on the connection also appears here so it has nothing to do with this.
