Hello i have problems with the wireless connection, i have an Sitecom 300 N WL181 wireless card with an RT2800 chipset, the kernel of Mepis 8.5 have detected the RT2800 as an RT2860sta, the firmware is implemented Mepis have the firmware onboard.

I have setup the connection and disabled the BC43 and BC new firmware not needed, there is also an option for ndiswrapper not needed in mine opion i have an Ralink base wireless nic. I have told the configuration that i use wpa2-psk gave mine password and see everything happen.

First i check the connection i see configuring the adapter, connecting to, obtaining an ip and then i get everytime back the password screen i click on yes and wait sometimes the screens comes back and back again it cost me minutes to get connection. I think there is an mistake in the configuration who can help me and when i have connection sometimes after 2 or more minutes i am disconnected and must then reboot i didn't get no more connection.

Can you please pastebin the output of "dmesg" after attempting to connect?

If you try using nm-applet, does that work?

Hello i will check an another option i have an Sitecom 300 N Wireless Card it seems that it not is working wel with the RT2860sta driver in Mepis an solution is maybe the router setup to change.

I will now disable the N connection option and will only choose for 802.1xx b/g instead of b/g/n.
It seems that the connection comes unstable with the n option so i will check this when i have connection i'll send the dmesg output.

Hello i have the router set to only 802.1xx b/g but no result i have tomorrow 34 attempts to get connection and it comes back with the passwordt screen. I have done it with debian based linux the firmware/driver rt2860sta under debian is an weak mesh the driver is unstable.

Under mandriva i have no problem out of the box it works direct no password screens, Opensuse 11.3 also the same trouble as debian etc. correct firmware, kernel etc bu no connection same problem password screen i have given it up no more debian. Close this ticket for me.

I had a similar problem with wireless (rt2870) and openSuSE (and debian/sid as well). My wireless USB dongle was only recognized by networkmanager-applet, but not with yast, and connection with networkmanager was a pain in the a... (i had the feeling, it would be easier to win the jackpot in the lottery, than to connect my wlan).
After installing wicd and removing all networkmanager related packages, wireless works like a charm (even before the log-in, what was my biggest issue with networkmanager).

So, what i want to tell you is: give wicd a try.

Hello i have done what you have asked download wicd and completely removed networkmanager no connection possible everytime i get the message wrong password screen i have tried if for more then 35 times.

Maybe do i something wrong how must the settings be for the wicd i have mine username on the backside of the router, the wpa2-psk password is also on the backside is this an pre-sharedkey or phrass.

I will reinstall Mepis 8.5 only when i get the correct settings i will also use Debian Lenny but how to install the firmware i am not handy with compiling etc but let someone please help me with the just settings for getting connection.

Hello, completely clean installed mepis 8.5 it cost me 42 attempts to get connection after connection i have first downloaded and installed wicd, wicd-gtk and wicd-client, wicd-daemon, installed and completely removed Networkmanager and reboot.

No connection at all wicd sees no wireless network, i have reboot the router and still no connection after 30 times the screen wrong password i gave up.
Mandriva no problem, Mint no problem.

All debian based systems except Mint no connection, Opensuse 11.3 also no connection possible, Kanotix also no connection possible.
