That command should have been run as a normal user.

Did that and received the following message after first line:-

Invalid D-BUS interface name 'org.kde.plasma-desktop.PlasmaApp' found while parsing introspection

The rest appeared to run but possibly to no effect given error in first line.

Does that help?

I forgot to add that the new desktop image is up on imagebin. As you can see I think I am now in a mess. How can I revert to previous desktop?
Task for tomorrow I think.

Everything seems normal in that screenshot...
Unfortunately I don't know why your system seems to take several minutes to connect to your wireless network.

OK and thanks for keeping in touch. The whole exercise has been a bit of a learning experience and I can learn to live with the wifi connection time. I would however like my old desktop back rather than having a desktop with a Desktop Folder. Where can I read up about Desktop Folders and how to manage them?

Click on the top right cashew > Desktop Settings > View. Change "Layout" to "Folder View". Note that this is from trunk, so instructions may vary on stable releases.

I closed my "Desktop Folder" using the x on the toolbar so lost that folder, which left me wallpaper and panel. Followed your instructions and now have my original desktop back. Many thanks.

I am running into a similar problem with networkmanager taking a long time to start during boot using openSuSE 11.3 and KDE 4.4. I use cached credentials from a windows domain, and I have to wait until after the NetworkManager is finished before the domain list will populate. If I flip over and watch it counts down while connecting and then continues to start other services. I thought the same about using a password less wallet, but that didn't help. Any idea what is causing this or a resolution?

Thanks

Unfortunately I don't know why that occurs. I don't autologin on my system, which may be why I don't see the issue.

I don't use auto login. It must be something with winbind because if I disable it. The time is normal.

I would recommend filing a bug report at bugs.kde.org, mentioning issues caused by the winbind, networkmanager, etc. interactions.

Hi, I would like to try this to see but haven't a clue how to disable winbind. Can you give me some help please so I can try this.

Also do not use auto login but since upgrading kde to 4.5 I have been having trouble with knetworkmanager and in trying to sort it out I now have to open the wallet to enable wifi connection. The time delay was there before however so the wallet is just a further delaying process I do not need at present. How can I remove the need to open the wallet for the WPA2 pass phrase please?

Grateful for any help advice when you have time.
Regards,
Budgie2
