Hi,
I'm sorry if this has already been discussed, but I tried to use the search and I don't really know what I need to be searching for. up to KDE 4.5.1, when I opened a file via SMB, VLC was just launched with the link address so it could stream the file. I now upgraded KDE to 4.5.2 (and Qt to 4.7 if that is of any importance) and now files are downloaded first and then VLC is launched with the downloaded file path. It does not matter which browser I'm using (Dolphin, Konqueror, Chromium), KDE always downloads the file first. How can I restore the old behaviour? vlc is configured to be launched as vlc %U, which as I just read means, that the program can handle URLs itself. thanks in advance, Malle |

Given the file association, this isn't expected behaviour. Please check that no other application is being accepted first.

VLC is the default application for all audio and video files. The behaviour is the same for SMplayer, too. Also, with a fresh user, I get the same results, so this does not have to do with any settings changed by me.

Can you reproduce with another protocol, for instance http?

KDE did not usually use streamin for HTTP as a default, but I just tried SSH/SFTP and I have the same issue there

What's the bug report number for this?
Sounds related to an issue reported on the main user mailinglist: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=340327 Cheers, _
