Hi,

i use openvpn to login to a vpn. When i use openvpn from the command line, it just adds subnet routes to the vpn - so other traffic can still go through my wireless interface. But when i use knetworkmanager with the same configuration, it overwrites the default route with a route to the vpn - essentially breaking all connectivity.

is there a config option i am missing that will tell knetworkmanager not to do this?

Thanks

Try editing the VPN connection configuration, select the "IP address" tab. Change the drop down box to "Routes" and check "Use only for resources on this connection"

"Use only for resources on this connection" means that only routes explicitly offered will be directed through that connection. Usually, that is only the local network routing.

Indeed, it is not completely clear.

Would it be possible to allow user defined routes as an option? In my University the default route is not the one I need to gain access to my machine. On the other hand I see no reason why I should route all my traffic through vpn.

It appears that KNetworkManager does not support this at this time. However, I would have expected a form to appear to enter manual routes when I check "Ignore automatically provided routes" in the Routing drop down.

Please file a feature request/bug report at bugs.kde.org.
