Configuring wireless connectivity

Sun Oct 17, 2010 2:54 pm
I am trying to configure wireless connectivity on my HP laptop. I have an Intel wireless card with the updated driver. Everything else is up to date as well. I have a wireless/Ethernet modem. I can see my modem in the Network Manager's map. If Ethernet is disconnected and I am trying to connect wirelessly, and I click on the Network Manager icon in the System Tray, I see the connection name, and it says it is "Activating", but it doesn't go any further than that. Is there someone who can help me get connected wirelessly please?

Thank you,

The times I have encountered that are when the link is not responding. Have you tried right clicking and trying a manual connection?

Dumb question, but how do I do a manual connection? I think I have already tried it.

When I right click on the icon at home, an option 'Create wireless connection' appears. As I don't have wireless at home, I cannot go any further but my memory from using this away from home is that, even when 'Activating' appears, there is an option to view the available wireless signals and to configure one or more of them.

I try that, and I get a prompt to open KDE Wallet and a password prompt for encryption (I am choosing WPA), and the frakkin' thing doesn't go anywhere! I try to open up my home page and get nothing but a failure notice.

Please try removing your connection and adding it again. Network Manager has issues sometimes, causing it to declare the connection 'Invalid' which can lead to unexpected behaviour.

Also, ensure the wireless network credentials are correct.

Solution: I was using the wrong modem.
