I've looked in the Kopete configuration but haven't found a place where I can configure the colors for the tab text. When I receive a new message in an IM window, the color of the username of the person who sent me the message turns a horrendous, unreadable pink color. I would like to change this to something more readable.

You can change the color at

Systemsettings > Application Appearance > Colors > Colors > Active Text
