Hi there,
This seems to be a somewhat similar problem to this: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=91270 but since my network's different, I'll give it a go with a new thread. I'm running OpenSUSE 11.3 KDE 64-bit on a Lenovo G560 using a Broadcom WLAN controller. The drivers are installed and I can get into normal private networks, but have never managed to get into the university network except for with Ubuntu. I can see the network, I can set it up, but it keeps on asking me for the network's secrets repeatedly. I know the password and username are correct and the same settings work fine with Ubuntu, as I said. But I much prefer my KDE and SUSE's the system that everything runs on right now, so I'd rather stick with that. The university instructions tell me to use the following settings: Security: WPA Enterprise Authentification: TTLS Inner Authentification: PAP Username: My username Password: Password CA Certificate: Deutsche_Telekom_Root_CA_2.pem In the KDE instructions, the university's instructions tell you to write "anonymous" into the anonymous identity field, but in the GNOME instructions it says to leave it blank. In Ubuntu, I leave it blank and it works. I thought it might be a bug from KNetworkManager, but since this is my only computer I'm afraid to install a concurrent network managing system. And I'm also too much of a noob to really use a lot of shell commands to circumvent the network manager. The people on the OpenSUSE forum didn't have any ideas of how to go further; does anyone here have any suggestions? Thanks a bunch! Daniel |

The network profile is exactly the same of eduroam, except that in my university the SSID is hidden (I don't know if this makes the situation any different).
I tried to install the GNOME frontend of networkmanager and it works perfectly with the wifi but with the KDE frontend for some reason, it fails. It must be a bug on KDE, and it's a bit old. :\ February 2010: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=85670&p=148603&hilit=eduroam#p148603 September 2009: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=252668 |

How did you install the GNOME frontend? I considered just installing the package NetworkManager-gnome and then uninstalling NetworkManager-kde, but I'm kind of afraid to. I know that GNOME programs should fine in KDE and vice versa, but I've heard a lot of horror stories about doing that. |

If you leave the field blank like it is done in GNOME, then does KDE Network Management connect to the network? Also, have you tried checking the content of /var/log/wpa_supplicant.log?

Yes, I've tried both leaving it blank and putting in "anonymous." The wpa_supplicant log seems like KNetworkManager can't parse the certificate, here's the relevant part (as far as I can tell):
Trying to associate with 00:14:a8:14:7d:60 (SSID='UMRnet_students' freq=2462 MHz) Association request to the driver failed Associated with 00:14:a8:14:7d:60 CTRL-EVENT-EAP-STARTED EAP authentication started CTRL-EVENT-EAP-METHOD EAP vendor 0 method 21 (TTLS) selected OpenSSL: tls_connection_ca_cert - Failed to parse ca_cert_blob error:0D0680A8:asn1 encoding routines:ASN1_CHECK_TLEN:wrong tag OpenSSL: pending error: error:0D07803A:asn1 encoding routines:ASN1_ITEM_EX_D2I:nested asn1 error TLS: Failed to set TLS connection parameters EAP-TTLS: Failed to initialize SSL. Can you please add that information to the bug report? It may aid the developers in fixing this issue.

Alright, I added it to the bug report. I guess for the meantime the solution will be switching to the GNOME Network Manager
