webkit and khtml are different html layout engines for web browsing - the one chosen will render your web pages within Konq
webkit is a fork of khtml and it used by the Chrome and Safari browsers |

so I tested webkit using http://html5test.com/, of course no idea how valid the test is nor how applicable is to what html5 code is actually in place - just because it's tested for doesn't mean it currently is used/useful. My understanding is certain of the tests have no real world usage yet
Konq w/webkit 155 w/0 bonus pts Konq w/khtml 79 w/9 bonus pts Opera 11 177 w/7 bonus pts FireFox 3.6 139 w/4 bonus pts Chromium 10.x 244 w/13 bonus pts as the above show (limited a test as it might be) Konq w/ webkit does pretty good with html5 relative to all but Chromium I also went to some html5 example pages and successfully ran a few of the examples - of course ymmv |

Regarding HTML5 support and compliance, the best website to compare browsers would be
W3C HTML5 test suite http://w3c-test.org/html/tests/harness/harness.htm and by running, going over the whole testsuite (924 tests). The other websites ( html5test.com , html5demos.com , caniuse.com , findmebyip.com/litmus ) only test for support (or only reports the support) and not by how well, how correct, how accurate the implementation is for HTML5 features, HTML5 attributes, HTML5 methods. The only real, worthy comprehensive test suite on HTML5 is at http://w3c-test.org/html/tests/harness/harness.htm Note that HTML5 is still in development. All HTML5 testing sites are stating this, including html5test.com (quote: "the specification isn't finalized yet"). Finally, there is no doubt that webkit rendering engine a bit more advanced, a bit more compliant, a bit more versatile than KHTML rendering engine. If nothing is done to reverse this, with time, KHTML rendering engine is going to have more problems rendering webpages accurately, accordingly. regards, Gérard |

Note that Konqueror webkit has no support for HTML5 video or audio whereas KHTML has some support; so each has their own strengths and weaknesses in relation to HTML5.

Dimitrios, Click the link named "Peacekeeper V1" at the bottom of the page (or http://clients.futuremark.com/peacekeeper/index.action ), then close the popup and then click the "Benchmark Your Browser" button (with url http://clients.futuremark.com/peacekeeper/run.action ) . The test takes 5 minutes. You may want to have a CPU and memory monitoring widgets loaded and opened while taking the tests. The tests check complex graphics, canvas, javascript intensively, DOM Scores I got ============ Chrome 14.0.835202 : 9561 Opera 11.51 : 7721 Firefox 7.0.1 : 5141 Konqueror 4.7.2 : 1569 I am using KDE platform version 4.7.2, Qt version 4.7.4, Linux 3.0.0-12-generic-pae i686 (32bits), Kubuntu 11.10 oneiric, Adobe Flash player version: 11.0.1.152. This sort of testing is not best. CSS 2.1 test suite (9500 testcases), HTML5 test suite (924 testcases), ECMAScript 5.1 test suite (11016 individual testcases), W3C DOM 2 and DOM 3 test suites, etc.. are generally much more reliable, trustworthy (because reviewed and corrected by W3C people and industry people) than what you can find on the web. regards, Gérard |
