Konqueror and youtube.com/embed

Wed Feb 23, 2011 11:51 am
Recently sites have begun displaying youtube videos by using an IFRAME element with src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/<id>". This does not work for me with konqueror, neither using KHTML nor kdewebkit.

Example URL: http://www.baadmagasinet.dk/index.php?sid=107&cid=13004

With webkit, it works as far as I can click in the lower right corner of the player area and watch the video on youtube, KHTML appears to try and fetch the swf, but the player area is a BSOD.

Does this way of showing youtube video work for anybody else using konqueror?

Vimeo appears to follow a similar strategy, example:

http://www.baadmagasinet.dk/index.php?sid=101&cid=13007

In their case the player is slightly better, khtml can actually display the video, but the scripted controls fails. kdewebkit, not supporting the video tag, shows the flash version fine.

So either khtml must try and improve the video support (scripting!), or maybe it should be possible to turn it off!
