Hi everyone!
I'm using kde 4.6.0 on a Sabayon kde 64bit distro, everything is fine and flawless but i started having problems two days ago. I've already posted a thread in sabayon's forum but now i'd like to bring this question in kde forum for further help. Now Kopete doesn't start at all! it worked flawlessly until two days ago! I tried to delete its app folder (in .kde/share/apps), I tried reinstalling and purging copmpletely the installation, nothing! just it doesn't start! (ps: there are no other installed packages related to kopete) That's what pops up when i try to do further investigation: - KCrash says in the bottom of its window "Segmentation fault (11)" -from the terminal:
- that's what Kcrash reports:
Furthermore: i tried to send a bug report with KCrash (this is my first time in sabayon) but it says that i haven't got the correct debug packages to analyze the problem (i remember that in the Ubuntu world, where i come from, you could install some dbg packages next to the proper package...but now in sabayon seems to work differently, since it's gentoo-derived). Is this a known problem? did any of you have the same problem? do i have to delete other folders or files? i'd like to add that Sulfur (Sabayon's package manager) performed an update before this problem showed up...maybe it's a know bug given by some updates? I would be glad to receive your hints. Thanks you all in advance Bye Renzo |

Your system openssl libraries are broken. Please report the issue to your distribution, this is indeed not a KDE issue.

Thank you so much! finally i've got some hints!
I understand now it's a problem of libraries, openssl to be precise, but there is a question i cannot answer to: why does kopete try to apen ssl? is it normal? and anyway, what if i delete every setting and every account? shouldn't it lauch without any problem (so i can add again any account one by one to see where the problem is) ? It would be a good compromise for me, right now... Any suggestion on this side? Many Thanks Renzo |

Kopete likely uses SSL to secure connections to the chat providers in order to ensure credentials are not compromised and messages cannot be intercepted.

thank you for your answer! yes, but what about a "vanilla" kopete? i mean, what if i purge completely any installation file for kopete? so it starts and doesn't connect to anything... I've already tried to purge my kopete installation and to install it again, after deleting every kopete folder under /home/user/.kde/share/apps but nothing... Is there any other file to delete? would this work? thanks Renzo |

And what do you do with it?
Installing/uninstalling kopete or removing its configuration files would most probably have no effect, given the problem is the installed openssl libraries. As I said above, you should report the issue to your distribution.

Ok, now it's clear! i thought that cleaning up some installation folders would have solved the problem.
I'll report the problem to whom it may concern. Thanks everyone Renzo |
