I tried looking through qdbus for kopete, but could not find it. Is there a method that returns the number of unread messages? i.e. when someone has sent something but I have not yet seen it?

Basically, I'd like to display this info on a conky window.

Unfortunately it appears that Kopete does not provide this information to external applications via D-Bus at this time. I suggest filing a feature request at bugs.kde.org.
