Dolphin and NFS4

Fri Feb 25, 2011 2:45 pm
I have a client machine (opensuse / kde4.6) and a server ( Novell Suse)
The server exports some directories by nfs4
If I use Dolphin and look at the permissions and ownership
of the directories they are wrong sometimes( usually if
I close Dolphin and open it again it gets it right second time.)
The create new is also greyed out when it's showing the wrong
permissions and ownership. The directories work as
normal all the time in everything else and I can create
files using OpenOffice etc.
If I log in with Gnome and use Nautilus it gets it right.

Is there something I need to do?

Given that this error is transient, it will likely be much harder to troubleshoot. I doubt that you need to make changes to the KDE configuration however for it to work correctly.

For the times it doesn't work, does simply refreshing the view (F5) have any effect? What about changing directory?

Also, try using "kdebugdialog" to enable all debugging output and examining ~/.xsession-errors for potential information on why it isn't functioning.

I have done some more investigating and it's not random
Here is the scenario
Login
The client sees /shared/dir1 and /shared/dir2 from the nfs4 server

Goto /shared and in dolphin look at the ownership of both dir1 and dir2
They are both wrong

Goto /shared/dir1
Close Dolphin
Reopen Dolphin
Goto /shared and in dolphin look at the ownership of both dir1 and dir2
dir1 is now correct and dir2 is still wrong

repeat the process for dir2 and that is now correct

Logout and back in again and it is back to the beginning again

This seems like it could be a caching issue. I suggest filing a bug report at bugs.kde.org in this case.
