Hi,
I am looking for a video chat solution which could replace skype video chat. Can somebody recommend a KDE/Linux solution which has a counter part in Mac/Windows? Markum

why not skype? i would think easiest most reliable connectivity option would be all using same product. what about gmail video chat? i believe kopete does some video but no idea what protocols are supported (got no cam)

Actually I am using Skype, but it appears to be quite unreliable. On my side the cam stops transmitting after a while (it still shows as being on). I have a dual boot system, so I can also use the windows version where everything works fine. But I do not like to use the windows version, I would like to have a linux solution. Since Skype is not really developing the Linux version, it seems the best thing is to find a different soltion. May be even brower base, do not know. But at the moment, it really sucks. Markum

Short answer:
Use Google Talk in a browser (from Gmail). http://www.google.com/talk/ Long answer: Google Talk in a browser works on Windows/MAC/Linux, in Firefox/Chrome/... Just install the plugin (DEB or RPM package): http://www.google.com/talk/ Surprisingly, it works quite nicely. There are other Google Talk compatible variants, but with voice only capability. Video does not work. For more see this post (small overview for openSUSE 11.4): http://forums.opensuse.org/english/othe ... ost2339576 |
