if I have to use the QT-library, will i be able to create an application for the KDE desktop? thanks for any help on this.

Please clarify what exactly you mean by "application for the KDE desktop". KDE Applications are built on the KDE Development Platform, which in turn are built upon the Qt toolkit. They are not tied to the KDE Workspaces - you can run them in other workspaces/window managers such as GNOME, Xfce, OpenBox etc., and on other operative systems like Windows and Mac OS X.
