3G USB modem and kdenetwork

Fri Jun 17, 2011 9:43 pm
Hi

I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 and KDE 4.6.4. The problem is I can use my Huawei 1750 modem if I log in using Gnome as a desktop environment and using its network-manager applet, but if I log in using KDE then I can't connect. A wizard pops up when I plug the USB modem and I set it up with the same options as in the Gnome network-manager applet but then I can't connect to the Internet.

On the other hand, the checkbox that allows to make the connection system-wide is disabled (but this seems to be an already reported bug).

Any ideas?

I've read some posts like mine, but I didn't see anything that works for me and I'm not sure if this is a bug or it's something I'm doing wrong.

Thanks in advance.

Bye.

there's been a lot of recent work on the KDE network manager http://lamarque-lvs.blogspot.com/ so maybe you can find a newer version or compile the source

an alternative is to use the gnome nm within KDE, there's some tutorials floating around such as these http://mschlander.wordpress.com/2011/03 ... suse-11-4/ http://susestarter.blogspot.com/2011/03 ... gnome.html

This indicates you are using a very old version of Plasma NM, at least 6 months old. Even worst, you are using NM-0.8. Plasma NM for NM-0.8 is deprecated in unmaintained. Please upgrade to NM-0.9 and Plasma NM 0.8.90.

PS: (K)Ubuntu 11.10 also ships with a very old (more than four months) version of Plasma NM full of already fixed bugs. Use Plasma NM 0.8.90 instead of the one shipped in (K)Ubuntu 11.10 or wait a few days until I release a new version of Plasma NM with some crashes fixed.
