can't connect to a wireless network with knetworkmanager

I got an edimax ew-7711usn wireless usb drive and when i plugged and and installed knetworkmanager i couldn't figure out how to use it to connect to my home network
can someone please explain to me how to use knetworkmanager?

Please verify that the firmware for the device is loaded. You can do this by checking the output of "dmesg".
