Hello fellow Konqueror users,

After 8 months of work, I am almost ready to publish the results of latest Konqueror version with regards to the CSS2.1 Conformance Test Suite.

Why almost? Well, I do not have a color printer and Konqueror does not have a print preview (please folks: Vote for idea 84727 and then vote for
Bug #258634:Print preview support in Konqueror
). So, I can not say what happens in 9 testcases.

9 testcases requiring a color printer:

2 testcases: hangs or refuses to print: I need someone else to confirm + verify this:

2 testcases UNKNOWN because of several characters not displayed possibly
due to font availability
; I need someone else to confirm + verify this.

If you want to help, just try one of those 13 testcases above and then indicate the result you got; you need to be using the latest Konqueror version (either 4.6.4 or 4.6.5).

All the results gathered so far:

Konqueror 4.6.4 implementation report of CSS 2.1 test suite

regards, Gérard Talbot

I think this would probably need more exposure than just a forum post. Have you considered emailing the KDE Promo folks (ML: kde-promo at kde dot org) to see whether this can be made a little more known (e.g. via blogs, or similar things)?

Einar,

Thank you for your suggestion.
I have just sent kde-promo an email.

I note that 2 people have recently voted for
Bug 258634: Print preview support in Konqueror. Every bit can help in this regard.

All I am asking for is results people get when they try those 13 testcases. Then I can submit the Konqueror 4.6.5 Implementation Report for CSS 2.1 test suite.

regards, Gérard Talbot

Hey GTalbot,
I'll start on those tests for you, but I was wondering if you'd thought of using the cups pdf printer to carry out the tests?

Argh, just a heads-up for anyone trying the tests - you'll need to turn off the "Printer Friendly Mode" under the HTML Settings tab of the print dialogue.

1. Pass (but the text on the page itsself turns green after printing)
2. Fail - the cyan stops about 2/3way down the page
3. Pass
4. Fail - bg stops 2/3 way down the page
5. ditto
6. ditto
7. Fail - magins are too small and bg stops 2/3 way down the page
8. Fail - box appears at the top of the page and covers the entire width.
9. Fail - box appears the same as 8.

10. Prints but appears to do so incorrectly (I can't make sense of what the expected result is but konqeror is different from ffx)
11. Ditto
12. + 13. Looks OK to me - I don't understant cyrillic but do have fonts for it for some reason.

Hello GeorgeB,

First, I have no idea how this cups pdf printing is done actually.

Second, I want to test Konqueror 4.6.5 with the KHTML engine. How is this cups pdf going to do that?

This may be a glitch with the paint refreshing of screen medium. Such glitch has no real impact on the test itself. If the text has been printed in green, then it's a pass.

GeorgeB, please just confirm that you have been using Konqueror 4.6.5 with the KHTML engine.

Also, did you have problems understanding some tests?

regards, Gérard

Gérard;
Yes, I've been using Konqueror 4.6.5 with KHTML.

My suggestion wrt cups-pdf was that since you don't have a colour printer you could print to a pdf printer in order to carry out the tests yourself if you need to in future.

The tests I couldn't undestand the wording of were the two which you say hung or failed to print - I could print them but wasn't sure if they'd passed or not - on re-reading the page it looks like they'd pass but due to the wording I can't really imagine what wouldn't pass. . .
"Test passes if the "Filler Text" below either repeats or doesn't repeat on the top of each page in paged media view."

If any of this is unclear I could upload scans of the print-outs or pdfs from the print to file option (once I've checked that they match the actual printouts) somewhere for you to check.

Also I have a machine running the latest 4.7 beta which I could also run the tests on if that would be of any help to you.

All the best,
George

When you have a long table to print and if you declare/create a table footer, then it may be (edit: it may be printed; not "should be") printed at the bottom of each page for such long table.

"
When long tables are printed, the table head and foot information may be repeated on each page that contains table data.
"
coming from HTML 4.01, Section 11.2.3 Row groups: the THEAD, TFOOT, and TBODY elements

GeorgeB wrote:12. + 13. Looks OK to me - I don't understant cyrillic but do have fonts for it for some reason.

I wonder which font you use, have set up for cyrillic. When I right-click on "DejaVu Serif" font name in Font installer, then choose "View in Font Reader" and then choose "Unicode Block: Cyrillic", I see all of the cyrillic characters that "DejaVu Serif, classic" font can display.
I will probably file a bug on this as I still do not understand why the test, when tried in Konqueror 4.6.5/KHTML, produces so many pairs of undisplayed/undisplayable characters.

Gérard

Right, thats what I thought but the wording on the test page itself seemed to allow it to either be printed or not as long as its consitent, in that case its a fail.

I'm using DejaVu Sans as the default font - looking at the font in Font Reader it appears to have more cyrillic characters. Droid Sans also has the right glyphs for the test.

All the best,
George

I can confirm GeorgeB's results(including fonts), although I classify tests 10 + 11 as fail due to the text not being repeated on each page.

I did the tests using the PDF printer, Konqueror 4.6.5, KHTML and Gentoo.

Great! :) This is excellent news!

GeorgeB wrote:The tests I couldn't undestand the wording of were the two which you say hung or failed to print - I could print them but wasn't sure if they'd passed or not - on re-reading the page it looks like they'd pass but due to the wording I can't really imagine what wouldn't pass. . .

What would not pass is if the words "Filler text" would not appear at all on the first printed page of table-footer-group-004.htm and of table-header-group-004.htm testcases.

I agree with you that the testcase pass conditions ("either repeats or doesn't repeat") are lenient.

One purpose of such testcase is to make sure that if an user agent (a browser) prints the <tfoot> text ("Filler Text") at the bottom of each printed page (or the <thead> text at the top of each printed page), then it would perfectly meet the following HTML 4.01 statement:

"
When long tables are printed, the table head and foot information may be repeated on each page that contains table data.
"
coming from HTML 4.01, Section 11.2.3 Row groups: the THEAD, TFOOT, and TBODY elements

The "may" word means optional in all the technical recommendations of W3C and in RFCs from IETF.

I think your description of results of those 13 testcases so far is clear, reliable and trustworthy. So, no, you do not need to upload scans of the print-outs; I am not requesting that.

GeorgeB wrote:Also I have a machine running the latest 4.7 beta which I could also run the tests on if that would be of any help to you.

All the best,
George

I am not requesting this. I am very happy that I have results for these 13 testcases.

I will post the results for each of those 13 testcases and link it to this thread. I will let you know in this thread when I have done that.

George, Thank you very much for your assistance on these 13 testcases. I really appreciate this :)

salutations amicales de Montréal,
Gérard Talbot
