Hello,
I recently switched from Pidgin to Kopete and here is my problem : I do not use KWallet, so everytime I start Kopete, I enter my passwords manually. It sometimes happens, that I make a typo (I'm learning to type with 10 fingers ) and I couldn't find a way to re-enter my password. Kopete just keeps telling me, it couldn't authenticate with the server (which is OK) but it does not offer to correct the password nor can I find any option to do this in the menu. Everytime this happens, I have to quit Kopete (by the way, when I quit, the KDE crash handler always opens saying kopete closed unexpectedly) and start it again to be able to input my passwords. Any help appreciated, thanks in advance! |

I'm afraid as things stand, kopete is virtually unmaintained and is slated to be replaced by integrating it into the desktop through a project called telepathy.
So, I don't see too many options for you, unfortunately. You can use kwallet to store the passwords and it works fine (I do this). Or you can use pidgin or other IM clients that are less buggy, but also somewhat less integrated into kde. Man, that telepathy stuff can't come soon enough. If you're interested in following progress on telepathy, the official page makes for a good read, especially the FAQ section. You can also check out this and this for two of the developers' blogs I could find.

Hey, thanks for your quick answer, although it isn't what I was hoping to hear I switched to Kopete because of the better graphical integration into KDE, so switching back to Pidgin...hmmm..not what I want, but considering this Telepathy thing being so deeply integrated into everything-KDE (actually, I start being fed up with KDE integrating everything with everything and loading tons of dependencies which I don't use, not keeping the whole simple and clean), not being a simple IM client, maybe I'll give Pidgin another chance.
