well I've got no new ideas but if you're not too enamored with your existing KDE settings you could rename your ~/.kde folder (all apps closed, though best would be logged out) and start clean, as you've said it works as a new user - then you could copy some settings for some apps hoping Konq still works as expected. And if it didn't help switch back
did you try webkit view mode ? can't see why it would matter, but an easy thing to try |

I have started to search among the bug reports at bugs.kde.org.
This one may be related to the problem I experience: Bug #90521: can't have bookmark toolbar enabled in webbrowsing profile and disabled in filemanagement profile Bug #178443: Can't show bookmarks bar; the description resembles my siuation. Gérard |

Bill, I was using the Air desktop theme. I have tried resetting to defaults and am now with default which is still Air desktop theme. I had modifications to window decoration: the size of buttons (close, maximize/restore, minimize) were very large. I have tried resetting to defaults and am now with default. I had also modifications to cursors; I have tried resetting to defaults and am now with default. Despite resetting to defaults, the problem of viewing the content of the bookmarks toolbar is still UNresolved. ----------- (a bit off-topic) One thing that I noticed is that if I change the size of small icons ( K application launcher / System Settings / Application appareance / Icons / Advanced tab / Small icons ) from 16 (16 is the default for small icons) to 22 , then several icons in columns of bookmarks seems to disappear. Steps to reproduce: 1- Bookmark both http://www.kde.org/ and http://www.planetkde.org/ 2- then change small icons size from 16 to 22 ( K application launcher / System Settings / Application appareance / Icons / Advanced tab / Small icons ) The kde.org bookmark icon is no longer viewable in the column of bookmark (albeit its semi-dimmed look will be displayed once hovered by the cursor) while the planetkde.org bookmark icon is still viewable (with and without hovering it with the cursor). This disappearance of bookmark icon may seem to be a bug but it may be a limitation rather and related to type of icon used: .ico, .png, .gif and maybe also as to how the favicon is declared: <link rel="icon" ...> or <link rel="shortcut icon" ...> and also how the mimetype is given for .ico: image/vnd.microsoft.icon (best because officially IANA-registered) image/x-icon (2nd best) image/icon image/ico application/ico regards, Gérard |

no new ideas but you should try the Oxygen theme and Oxygen window decorations - as it is not a problem running as a different user it's somewhere in your ~/.kde but no idea where
as to the icon problem, you need to start a new thread as it's a new topic. I tested and it's something I couldn't replicate so would suggest you try again as a different user |

Bill Today, I modified my decorations, size of buttons, etc.. and suddenly, the bookmarks toolbar in Konqueror appeared. So, now, the problem is SOLVED but I have no idea how my previous settings cause the bookmarks toolbar to be empty or not displayed and how I cause it to make it appear now. I was (and still am) using the Oxygen window decorations but with the Air desktop theme. The Oxygen window decorations are the defaults; the Air desktop theme is the default. The only change I do to window decorations are the size of the restaure, minimize, close and ? buttons; I find the default size too small. One thing that is weird: I have Settings/Configure Konqueror.../Internet Navigation/Bookmarks section/Only display bookmarks present in the Bookmarks toolbar checkbox is UNchecked ------------
When I increase the size of icons {small icons size from 16 to 22 ( K application launcher / System Settings / Application appareance / Icons / Advanced tab / Small icons )} then some of such icons in the bookmarks columns (when I view+navigate from the Bookmarks menu) become randomly visible. I believe it depends on the file format of icons (.png, .ico) and how they are declared in the webpage. ---------- Anyway... I wanted you to know that I solved my original+initial problem of displaying the bookmarks toolbar but I have no idea how I fixed it. best regards from Montréal, Gérard |

Bill,
I found it. I know what happened now. Do this: Settings/Configure Konqueror.../Web Browsing section/Only display bookmarks present in the bookmarks toolbar and here check such checkbox: no more bookmarks toolbar displayed! Now, uncheck such checkbox: the bookmarks toolbar is now displayed! I read again this help:/kcontrol/khtml-behavior/index.html in French, and the information does not make sense! This time, I am resolving this thread as Resolved!! Gérard |
