Hi!
i have a problem. I was meaning to try out Mandriva 2011, but i have a problem. I live in a dorm, and we set up our internet by uploading a .pem permission file in the network manager, setting it to tunneled TLS and adding our account information - and that's usually it, and works like a charm. Problem is, Mandriva is resetting the details i put in every single time. On the other hand, in OpenSuse 11.4 KDE, i can't even find the auto eth0 in my wired connections. How do i fix this? Thank you! I'd really like to use KDE |

I have no experience of .pem files however I can tell you that networkmanager on my desktop PC also does not show any reference to eth0 in wired connections. However if I switch to the command line and enter ifconfig it will show the connection.
You might have more luck using wicd in place of the standard network manager. I found this https://vtluug.org/wiki/EAP-TLS which, although it is for wireless, has information that might give you some clues as it covers a number of solutions. It also has a section on installing wicd and removing networkmanager which will be useful if you decide to try that route. Here's a link to the official wicd website http://wicd.sourceforge.net/.

it didn't want to install the wicd for me, it seems it doesn't exist for mandriva 2011. the 2010 version didn't work.

NetworkManager might not show the wired network if it is manually configured (e.g. it may be configured in /etc/network/interfaces). You should ask Mandriva/OpenSuse people (on forums, irc, mail, etc.) on how to get NetworkManager to configure your network.
connect(post, SIGNAL(readSignature()), qapp, SLOT(quit()));

Further, it won't be shown if only a single system profile exists for it. If you create a profile under "Wired" in System Settings however, then the device should show.
KDE Sysadmin
