Hi, Kubuntu newbie here.
I have been using Terminal Server Client to control a Win2K3 server successfully over a VPN on my Ubuntu desktop for a few years. My laptop recently got Kubuntu installed (cos I don't like Unity). As I need to continue work while away I've been trying to get KRDC to connect to the Win2K3 server. The VPN gets connected ok, and KDRC appears to try to connect to the server but I just end up with a blue screen. I note that the TSC set up on Ubuntu uses RDPv5 protocol but that doesn't seem to be available on KDRC. I put the IP address of the server in the "connect to *rdp*" box and hit the return icon at the end of the box. I then get an "Enter Username - KRDC" box into which I put the Windows user username for the server. All I get then is a big blue screen:( Can anyone help me please? Any advice appreciated. Craig |

suggestions to help debug
1) run krdc from konsole, are there errors messages? 2) close krdc, open kdebugdialog, deselect all then select krdc hit "ok" and then open krdc and after failure to connect open and search tail of ~/.xsession-errors note: no reason you can't install and run tsclient under KDE until you can resolve this |

Hi,
Two things:- 1) Ran krdc from terminal, it appeared to open but the terminal showed:- craig@craig-TOSH:~$ krdc krdc(2642)/kdeui (kdelibs): Attempt to use QAction "remote_desktop_dockwidget" with KXMLGUIFactory! QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such file or directory QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/craig/.config/ibus/bus 2) Installed tsclient, it failed at the same point when trying to connect. Looks like it's something bigger than the connection clients? |

are both user names the same ? if not need to use
as both krdc and tsclient use rdesktop the problem would appear to be rdesktop but why it worked in Gnome but not KDE I have no clue try: - reinstalling rdesktop - as a different user |

Tried rdesktop -u craig ipaddress but no change.
Gnome and KDE are on different machines connected to the same network. I'm getting the impression that things are connecting but there's just no screen appearing. Is there a log somewhere I can interrogate? |

Have reinstalled rdesktop, tsclient and also installed Remote Desktop Client, all die at the point of connection. tsclient times out with an "ipaddress unable to connect" message. The VPN is connected with the same settings as the one that works on the Gnome machine.

Have you verified that no connectivity issue is being caused by something on the server's side (such as a Firewall)?

The desktop (running Ubuntu) connects fine so there's no issue with the server's firewall.

On the Kubuntu laptop the version appears to be 1.6.0-3ubuntu4.1 according to KPackageKit.
On the Ubuntu laptop Synaptic says it's 1.6.0-3ubuntu2.1 |

I can see I'm going to have to swallow my pride and install Unity-ridden Ubuntu on my laptop as soon as it can handle a Sandy Bridge i5 processoer. KDE is still too awkward to use for every day:( Keep getting tripped up by stuff like this. When I need it to work it's still a nightmare:(
