Although I often distro hop for fun, I mainly have the main edition of Mint running. I keep trying KDE because I like it, but, something always pushes me back to everything just working for me. Granted, my issues may be distribution related, and not KDE, but I hope to get some solid advice.
Currently, I have been running Kubuntu from a live USB stick for a couple of weeks. Mostly, though, I have been living in Chromium. A friend in Thailand asked to Skype the other day. Normally I would plug in my bluetooth adapter (an AZiO BTD-V201) and connect my stereo Sony (S10-HD) headsets. In Mint, bluetooth works perfectly as I insert the device. On Kubutu, I ran BlueDevil, which allows me to see bluetooth adapters. It simply tells me "No adapters found". The reason I am writing to this forum, opposed to a Canonical forum is because, regardless of the distribution, I often have the same issues with KDE. One specifically is printers. Printers always seem to install easier with Gnome 2.xxx. Installation never seems to go as smoothly, in my experience, with any KDE distro. Anyway, any ideas on how to get my bluetooth adapter working? I apologize if this is an inappropriate forum for this post. |

Well, I managed to get it working, somewhat. I am not sure if rebooting bluetooth fixed it or not because I tried the adapter in every orifice my computer has.
The headphones seem to work as expected, but I cannot record from the microphone. I have tried a plethora of settings and all fail. In the Phonon application, after I move my capture device preference to the top of the list and apply, then close, it moves back down upon reopening Phonon. In Audacity, I can get it to record using the webcam microphone while using the bluetooth headsets to listen, but cannot duplicate this in Skype. Or at least, when I make a test call, I cannot hear my voice during playback, but I hear the automated lady. My preference would be to use the bluetooth microphone as I do in Mint, but the webcam microphone would be acceptable, I guess. The problem with using the webcam mic and speakers is feedback from the speakers back into the mic where people hear an echo of themselves. I appreciate your willingness to help. |

I can't really help (no idea about bluetooth) my response was just to make sure the device was found when attached
Just to confirm: - bluetooth head set works, both sound and mic using Skype - can't record bluetooth mic when using Skype - can record Skype when using internal mic Can you record bluetooth mic using diff app? It will help to id issue as Skype only or system general Could you mark this thread solved by clicking the green check mark (as bluetooth now works) and open a new one entitled something like "cannot record bluetooth mic" adding Skype in subject if appropriate. |

To clarify, the earphones are working, but the headset mic is not. I tried Skype and Audacity. I can, however, use the webcam mic to record and listen through the bluetooth headset using Audacity by tweaking the settings, which is acceptable, but not ideal, if it worked with Skype. I cannot record using either microphone using Skype, though, which is the intended purpose for the mic. In the Skype settings, the only option for the recording device is PulseAudio. Tweaking the settings in both the mixer and Phonon did not help resolve the issue. Furthermore, everything was plug and play using Mint. So, again, I am uncertain whether the issue lies in the Kubuntu kernel or not.
