Very recently, I installed Kubuntu 11.04. I'm encountering many problems since then--
1)Kubuntu doesn't recognize my LAN wire. ifconfig -a detects the ethernet controller to be realtek's. Ksystemlog says that Auto0's made invalid because IP configure commit failed(no IP configuration found) in stage 5 of the activation of the device.

So I tried using net from my cellphone. Hence I discovered the second problem.
2)The network managing pop-up doesnt HAVE a checkbox to enable wireless. So, the option 'mobile broadband' is also disabled in the Knetworkmanager.

There are no problems with either the Lan wire or the cellphone, because they both work well on Win7
I've tried the best I possibly can to rectify these problems myself, in vain. Please guide.

"Enable Wireless" only appears if one wifi card has been detected. NM send that information to Plasma NM, so probably NM did not detect any wifi card or you have your wifi card in /etc/network/interfaces, which make NM ignores it.

Mobile broadband tab is enabled only if you have a mobile broadband connection already configurated or if you have a 3G modem / phone attached to your computer.

As to the wired connection, or your ethernet card is malfunctioning or you do not have a DHCPv4 server in your network.

Oh, sorry I forgot to mention... I'm using Kubuntu in my PC, so there's no wi-fi card. But I did connect my 2G phone, yet it's not configuring the connection automatically, and neither is it allowing me to set up a mobile broadband connection manually. As for the ethernet card, it's working fine in Win7, so there cant be any problems with it.(I dont know how to find out whether DHCPv4 server is present in my network or not... :( )

At least for Symbian phones there are four modes to select when connecting the phone to the computer using USB: "PC Studio", "Mass storage", "Image transfer" and "Media transfer". Only "PC Studio" allows ModemManager, and consequenly NetworkManager and Plasma NM, to use the phone as modem. Probably your phone must have a similar configuration.

By the screenshot you posted dhclient did not received any answer from a DHCP server. Since it works with Windows then probably your DHCP server is incompatible with dhclient (something very rare to happen but it happens) or dhclient timeout is too short for your DHCP server. The last one is likely to happen if you have a very crowed network.

My phone does have different modes and I did use the "PC Internet" Mode. What it does in the first run (In Win7) is, it installs the drivers and an internet kit. I could install the same manually using wine, but it is not showing any additional mounted drives (where the .exe files of the internet kit are present)

Isn't there any way to make it compatible? ???

Usually it is a configuration in the phone that does the trick. There is usb_modeswitch for 3G modems, but I do not think it works for phones. Does your phone use Symbian?

nope.... It's an LG KP500 cookie and as far as I know, it uses a flash based OS and doesn't have usb_modeswitch :(

Which modemmanager version do you use? Someone reported a problem between your phone and a beta version of ModemManager:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/737011

Also which Plasma NM version do you use? By the screen it looks like a quite recent version. You can check the version by clicking on the "Manage Connection" button, then the "Other" tab. It must be something like nm09-20110929.
