The most unnerving thing of KDE browser, either konqueror or rekonq, is that one needs always a "spare browser" which means that firefox or opera always have to be installed.
This is particularly necessary for online banking. Currently I am using three different online banks of which two are working in rekonq and only one in konqueror, whereupon it doesnt matter whether webkit or khtml is the engine in the browser. However, all working in firefox. Has anyone came across the same problems? If yes, this is a very sad bug which clearly should be solved to increase the global usability of KDE. Cheers rexi80 |

Hi,
I also have two different online banks and no problems with Konqueror. Maybe you are using the KHTML engine? With that, I also have issues with Konqueror, in one of these banks. So if you use Konqueror 4.6.x you can switch the engine under settings --> configure... to Webkit and try again. Also, I realised that my "problem bank" uses Java script. If you tick the checkbox in configure... --> Java & Javascript: "use KIO", then this also could improve the situation. Since I have these two settings, Webkit and using KIO, I don´t have any problems with onlinebanking anymore. Additionally I also have the impression that Konqueror gets a bit faster. |

Thank for the hints.
I am using konquror 4.7.2, release 9, 64 bit. Unfortuneatly neither of the adivces worked. Cheers |

The problem is either the 64 bit openSuse or the 4.7 KDE. I have a Kubuntu 11.04 in a virtual machine with kde 4.6 and had no problems with all the webpages in there.

I also have a 64 Bit openSUSE... but it works. Maybe some packages, plugins or whatever are missing in your Suse install? But I also have KDE 4.6.5 -- so maybe the reason is really in KDE 4.7.... |

rexi80, I'd like to help but, as worded and as presented, your post is not helpful. Whenever you have a problem with a browser and a webpage, then you must provide significant, meaningful and helpful information about the problem. Here, you are referring to unidentified online bank websites regarding unknown webpages having undescribed problems regarding browsers and rendering engines without version numbers. I do not even know what is the problem; no precise description of the problem, no way to reproduce, no contact info to those bank websites, no idea what plugins are required for those sites, no clue as to which versions of the plugins you have installed or not installed, etc, etc, etc..
You do not even describe the problems. You provide no precise info which could help understand, investigate and eradicate the undefined problems you refer to.
Even the opinion-conclusion you reach is unfair, unfounded, without a legitimate basis. You do not even specify the browser versions of Firefox and Opera in your post; so, we don't even know how exactly you work around the undefined problems at those unidentified websites. rexi80, why don't you file a bug report at bugs.kde.org and then specify all the relevant information which can help investigate and eradicate the problems you experienced. Which version of KDE are you using? Which browser? Which version of that browser? Which rendering engine? Which rendering mode? Which website? Which webpage? with or without jQuery? which version of jQuery? dojo? mootools? How many js errors reported? Which types of errors reported in Javascript debugger? How many validation errors? CSS errors? Does the site resort to browser sniffing? to object/method detection support? does the site rely on shockwave flash plugin? on java? etc,etc,etc.. There are dozens of questions like that that you have not answered yet. You never ever should expect anyone to figure out a problem that you can not precisely and accurately delimite in terms of code and reproduceability. What you did here is like calling a car mechanic/technician on the phone and then you told him that your GM car does not work and that you will never use a GM car anymore. Gérard Talbot |

Gérard, that's not entirely fair. Yes, it would be nice to have a complete how-to-reproduce instruction, but that would require rexi80 to post his bank account password(s) in the bug report. Like him, I can't use konqueror on my bank website (https://www.my.commbank.com.au/netbank/Logon/Logon.aspx), owing to unidentifiable problems in either pop-ups, Java or Javascript, so like rexi80 I have to keep firefox around for that purpose. Surely at least one konqueror maintainer has internet banking? |

Hmm, mm. And the point of that comment was? |

All the situations in which konqueror doesn't work seem to occur when logged-in to some service, so no one wants to post details. However, here is one that should be easy to reproduce, since it occurs on linkedin.com. Log in then try to comment to some posted news item or 'like' thing. The box for the comment appears, and one can enter ones comment, but there is no [Comment] button for posting.
Another one is http://www.change.org --- go there, find a petition you like, and try to 'sign' it with a comment added. The button doesn't (in my experience) work. |
